Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Diagnostic Medical Sonographers are skilled professionals qualified to provide patient services using diagnostic ultrasound under the supervision of a physician. Sonographers assist the physician in gathering anatomic, pathological/physiological data necessary to make diagnostic decisions.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at West Kentucky Technical College is an 18-month, full-time career program designed to prepare students for entry level employment in diagnostic ultrasound. The program includes both classroom work and clinical education in an affiliated ultrasound department.

All sonography applicants must have graduated from a two-year Medical Association approved Allied Health program, or hold a minimum of an Associate Degree in Applied Science in a clinically related field.

Employment Opportunities

Employment opportunities exist in hospital ultrasound departments, clinics, mobile services, and private physicians’ offices. Program graduates will find career opportunities locally, regionally, or nationally.

Accreditation

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is accredited by the Committee for accreditation of Allied Health Education Program.
