| Practical Nursing
Practical nurses perform duties in the care of clients of all ages, newborn to the elderly. Their duties include such things as daily care of patients, taking vital signs, providing treatments, and giving medications. Classroom instruction is closely correlated with guided clinical practice in affiliating health care agencies. The program’s focus is on the scientific and social foundations basic to practical nursing and the care of individuals of all age groups with commonly occurring health problems. Graduates are eligible to take the examination required for a license to practice in Kentucky or any other state of choice. West Kentucky Technical College’s Practical Nursing graduates may receive credit hours toward an associate degree in nursing at selected community colleges. Practical nurses may work in hospitals, clinics, health agencies, doctors’ offices, schools, nursing homes, on private duty, and in home health and industry under the direction of a registered nurse, physician, or dentist. |
