University of Louisville

The Committee on Admissions of the Dental Hygiene Program selects applicants for the Dental Hygiene Program. Prospective students should submit applications beginning December 1. All forms must be received by Admissions by March 1.

Applicants must meet all admission requirements in order to be considered by the Committee on Admissions. Enrollment is limited to thirty students. Therefore the program is competitive and fulfillment of admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Applicants are encouraged to obtain academic advising. The Dental Hygiene Program has an academic advisor for dental hygiene applicants and dental hygiene students. Applicants may make appointments for scheduled advising sessions. Please call the Dental Hygiene Program at (502) 852-5081 early in the application process to make an appointment.

Applicants will be informed of the decision of the Committee on Admissions and, if accepted, will be requested to send a $100 deposit to the School of Dentistry to reserve a place in the class. This amount will be applied as a credit toward the regular registration fee at the time of enrollment. This sum will be forfeited in the event that the student should cancel the reservation in advance or fail to appear for enrollment.

Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program is competitive. You must have a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 (A= 4.0). In calculating cumulative G.P.A. all transfer work accepted by UofL for academic credit and all UofL work at the 100 level or above is included (developmental work is excluded). The G.P.A. also reflects repeated courses. Transfer students are accepted for admittance into the Dental Hygiene Associate Degree Program. Nonprofessional courses are evaluated for transfer by the College of Arts and Sciences. Professional courses are evaluated for transfer by the appropriate individuals at the School of Dentistry. Transfer credit is given for courses in which a student has earned a grade of C or above.

PREREQUISITE COURSES

Students must have completed or be in the process of completing all the listed prerequisite courses. The prerequisite courses are subject to change and students should contact the Dental Hygiene Program to obtain the most current listing of prerequisite courses.

Applicants must have successfully completed, or be currently enrolled, in all but one of the (*) prerequisite dental hygiene courses prior to enrollment in the Dental Hygiene Program. Arrangements to enroll in a missing prerequisite course must be approved by the Dental Hygiene Academic Advisor after a student has been accepted into the dental hygiene program.
