University of Louisville

The University of Louisville School of Dentistry (ULSD) is a state-supported institution located on the Health Sciences Center campus in downtown Louisville, a city with a metropolitan area population of approximately one million. Founded in 1887, the ULSD is one of the oldest dental schools in the nation and is currently housed in a building that opened in 1970. The current freshman class size is 80 students: 44 Kentucky residents and 36 nonresidents.

The D.M.D. program is four years in length. A combined D.M.D./M.S. in Oral Biology can be obtained through participation in an optional research program and a combined D.M.D/Ph.D. program is under development. The School's philosophy is to consider students partners in learning and provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the challenges of the dental profession. Many ULSD graduates choose to practice general dentistry, while others choose to continue their education in a specialty program or in dental research.
