University of Louisville

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Registered Nurse Program)

Pre-licensure Option

The University of Louisville School of Nursing offers an innovative curriculum designed to prepare professional nurses to work in a changing health care system. The curriculum is based on two years of general studies before beginning the nursing major. The curriculum emphasizes life skills for nursing that are used in all courses. These life skills, while not unique to nursing, are practiced in the discipline of nursing in every course. Students begin working in community settings in the first course while focusing on health promotion and prevention. The second nursing course focuses on chronic care of groups and families wherever these people are found. In the third semester, students focus on acute care of individuals and families in institutional settings. The fourth semester provides opportunities for synthesis in a selected practice area. All courses provide interactive learning experiences within a community of learners. There are opportunities for extensive field and clinical experiences in each course.
