| The mission of the Bachelor of
Health Sciences program is to provide an educational experience through
which persons who have prepared for various credentialed or licensed
professions in the health sciences may advance their education and
career opportunities. The program stresses the development of enhanced
technical proficiencies, managerial and leadership skills, ethical
frameworks, social awareness, and interdisciplinary preparation required
for persons who accept the responsibility of stewardship implicit in
management and leadership in the health sciences professions.
Job Opportunity in Managerial and Supervisory Fields: The Kentucky Workforce Cabinet estimates that during the period of 1996 to 2006 the demand for trained healthcare professionals in Kentucky will increase by over 39,000 positions. There are already significant shortages of health sciences professionals throughout the Commonwealth. In addition to the direct clinical practitioners, health services management and administration areas will show similar growth, including Health Service Management at 28 percent and Medical Records Technicians at 51 percent. In one of the most significant demographic indicators for the BHSc, figures for BEA Region 70 show that in the 2000-2010 period, medical and health services management will be the fourth fastest growing sector of management occupations with a growth rate of 32%.
