Medical Coding Specialist Diploma

Objective: The objective is to analyze medical records, assigning codes to indices of diagnoses and procedures and to provide information for reimbursement purposes. Medical Coding specialist learns to transform verbal descriptions of diseases, injuries, and procedures into numerical designations. Medical Coders possess the skills necessary for employment in physicians' offices, clinics, hospitals, and insurance companies. This course prepares the student to apply for the national coding certificate at the apprentice level.

Upon completion of the program the student will be able to perform the following skills:

bulletAnalyze medical records and assigning codes to indices of diagnoses and procedures
bulletprovide information to establish medical necessity to the insurance company for reimbursement purposes
bulletTransform verbal descriptions of diseases, injuries, and procedures into numerical designations that can be submitted electronically for reimbursement
bulletPerform customer service skills necessary for employment in physicians' offices, clinics, hospitals, and insurance companies
bulletIdentify symptoms, conditions, or other reasons for the medical service or procedures being perform
