| Nursing Program
The purpose of the nursing program is to prepare registered nurses at the associate degree level to provide care to clients in both acute and long-term care settings. The Program The Associate in Applied Science Degree Nursing Program prepares graduates to provide and manage client care and to become members within the discipline of Nursing. Graduates are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The Associate in Applied Science Degree Nursing curriculum is organized around a clearly defined conceptual framework which combines general education and nursing education. The nursing education courses correlate classroom and clinical instruction in a variety of community agencies. Students may be required to do morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend clinicals, depending on the clinical schedules. Students will be rotated through various hospitals and health care facilities. Progression in the program is contingent upon achievement of a grade of "C" or better in each biological science, and mathematics course and maintenance of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or better. The Associate Degree Nursing Program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Commission of Accreditation. Graduates are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination to become registered nurses. Admission Enrollment in the program is limited and admission is based on a selective admissions process. The applicant's ACT/ CPP scores, GPA of previous college work and courses taken in the nursing curriculum are considered. Application Procedure A class is admitted to the program once a year. In order to apply for admission to the nursing program for fall semester 1999, or to receive information about the program, individuals must attend a preadmissions conference.
Advance Credit LPNs who are admitted to the program may receive credit for prior learning. An articulation agreement provides eligible graduates from Kentucky Technical College Practical Nursing Programs the opportunity to receive credit for Nursing I, II, and III. LPNs admitted to the program who did not graduate from a Kentucky Technical College practical nursing program and hold a current unrestricted license for practical nursing in Kentucky will be awarded nine semester hours of credit for NSG I. LPNs who are eligible for advance credit in nursing may also apply for admissions to the program for the spring semester in order to fill student vacancies that may have occurred in the program.
