Southeast Community College

The Clinical Laboratory Technician Program is a joint program between Southeast Community College and Cumberland Valley Technical College in Pineville. The program is implemented through an articulation agreement which provides graduates of the Medical Laboratory Technician Program at Cumberland Technical College with 34 credit hours in clinical laboratory technician coursework. By completing the general education requirements for the CLT curriculum, graduates earn the associate in applied science degree at SECC and are eligible for the certification examination as a Clinical Laboratory Technician.

The Cumberland Valley Technical College Medical Laboratory Program is accredited by National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Southeast Community College is an academic affiliate with Cumberland Technical College and will award the Associate in Applied Science Degree.

Clinical Laboratory Technicians work under the supervision of a clinical scientist or pathologist in a clinical laboratory, hospital or other health agency. The technician collects specimens from patients, and performs analyses on blood and other body fluids. The Clinical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory tests in such areas as blood banking, clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology and urinalysis.
