Pikeville College

Bachelor of Science - Medical Technology

The academic requirements for the Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science curriculum consist of three years of pre-professional course work followed by the senior year (12 months) of specialized training based at Pikeville College and it’s clinical affiliate, Pikeville Methodist Hospital. The program is seeking accreditation by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science. Graduates of an accredited program are qualified to take national certification examinations.

Prerequisite courses for acceptance into the final year of study include completion of all Core Requirements and courses in the following areas: biological sciences, general chemistry, organic chemistry and/or biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, statistics, and mathematics. At the time of application to the final year of the program, applicants should have completed or presently be enrolled in the prerequisite courses required for application to the program. All prerequisite courses must be successfully completed before the first day of class work in the professional program.

Completion of the prerequisite requirements at Pikeville College does not insure admission to the MT/CLS professional program. Students should apply for admission to the professional year of training no later than December 1 in the year prior to their projected entrance into the professional program.
