Nursing Program graduates are prepared for the responsibilities
of the registered nurse to give care to patients in beginning staff
level positions. The curriculum of the program combines general and
nursing education. Classroom lectures are held at Owensboro Community
College and nursing faculty supervise the clinical learning experiences
at various health agencies in the community.
The degree of Associate in Applied Science in Nursing is awarded upon completion of the program and the graduate is eligible to write the national licensing examination to become a registered nurse. Graduates usually seek employment in a hospital, nursing home, physician's office, extended care facility, or other areas of special interest. This Associate Degree Nursing Program is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities and approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing. Application Procedures Preference may be given to applicants who have met the following admission criteria prior to July 1 for the Fall Admission. 1. Pre-Admission Conference (attendance required at any one scheduled Pre-Admission Conference.)** 2. Personal Data Form (completed at Pre-Admission Conference) and/or Optional Personal Interview (to be scheduled on an individual basis). 3. Current applications to Owensboro Community College (Declared Major Code - 6208). 4. Secondary school transcript or high school equivalency credentials (GED). These equivalency credentials include both the GED scores and the official GED certificate. 5. Transcript of post high school education, i.e., college transcripts or practical nursing transcript. 6. Results of the American College Test (ACT). 7. Results of the Nurse Entrance Test (C-NET). **Pre-Admission Conference For the applicants to be considered by the Admissions Committee, one Pre-Admission Conference must be attended. Dates for the conference will be the third Thursday in September, November, January, and April on the Owensboro Community College campus in Blanford Lecture Hall in the Humanities building at 4:00 p.m. For more information, call (270) 686-4457. Admission Preference may be given to applicants with the following credentials. A. Applicants who rank in the upper half of their high school class or have a standard score of 50 or better on the GED. B. Applicants who have a composite standard score equal to a 20 or above on the ACT. C. Applicants who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in 12 or more credit hours from any accredited college. D. Kentucky residents and applicants within the service area. E. Applicant who score at the 50th percentile or better on the C-NET test. |
