| Radiography
This program prepares the individual to become a radiographer. The radiographer is prepared to administer ionizing radiation for medical diagnostic imaging purposes. Emphasis is on radiation protection and quality patient care. The curriculum is comprised of specialized courses in radiography along with concentrated study in the basic sciences, mathematics, and general education. Students enrolled in the Radiography program must achieve a minimum grade of "C" in each Radiography course. Radiographers may find positions in hospitals, health clinics, and physicians’ offices. Research laboratories and some industrial firms may also employ radiographers. Mission and Goals The associate of applied science degree in radiography has a mission consistent with the Mission of Owensboro Community College. The program recognizes that students differ in their needs, interests, and aspirations. As a result, the program is organized to prepare students for the level of competencies required to become highly qualified and successful radiographers. The program will provide all who come to it with meaningful education experiences. The goals of the program are:
Course of Study The 24-month program combines classroom study at Owensboro-Mercy Health System, Ohio County Hospital in Hartford, KY and other clinical education centers. Students must meet all general education requirements and pass all radiography courses to successfully complete the program. Certification Upon successful completion of the program students receive an Associate in Applied Science degree from Owensboro Community College and will be eligible to take the exam required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.) to become a registered R.T.(R). |
