Emergency Medical
Technicians, EMTs, are a vital part of the team that provides Northern Kentucky with quality emergency
medical and trauma services. The Office of Credit Continuing Education and Distance Learning offers an
Emergency Medical Technology course for adults who wish to perform this important function.
Completion of the six semester hour Emergency Medical Technology course prepares the student to take the Kentucky EMT
Certification Exam and the National Registry Exam and become an EMT. The course follows the National
Standard Curriculum from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Taught in a
hands-on, laboratory setting, the course includes:
 | emergency care |
 | transportation of the sick and injured |
 | cardiopulmonary resuscitation including cardiac defibrillation and advanced |
 | airway management |
 | bleeding control |
 | sprain and fracture immobilization |
 | emergency childbirth |
 | medical and environmental emergencies |
 | vehicular extraction. |
 | advanced medication modalities |
Eligibility
Applicants must:
 | be at least 18 years old by completion of the course; |
 | hold at least a high school diploma or equivalent; |
 | be of good moral character; |
 | not be habitually addicted to or an abuser of alcoholic beverages, drugs, or controlled substances or convicted under
KRS 189 or 189A; |
 | understand and be able to read, speak, and write English*;and, |
 | submit a Signed application on a form provided by the Kentucky Cabinet for
Health Services and an application from the National Registry of EMT, distributed
by the instructor the first night of class. There are minimal fees for certification
testing. |
*Students who want special consideration must apply in writing prior to the beginning of the course.
