| Clinical Laboratory Sciences The Division of Mathematics and Science offers a curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Sciences degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Clinical Laboratory Sciences is the scientific discipline concerned with diagnostic, preventive, and prognostic clinical procedures. The Clinical Laboratory Sciences major receives classroom and laboratory training, as well as clinical experience, which qualifies him/her to seek a career or advanced training in Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Blood Banking, Urinalysis, Hematology, or Serology. The Clinical Laboratory Sciences curriculum combines a minimum of three years of course work at Kentucky State University with one calendar year of clinical training at an accredited hospital school of clinical laboratory science. The cooperating institutions at this time are the University of Louisville, Pikeville Methodist Hospital, and Tennessee State University/Meharry Medical School. Upon completion of the program, the student will receive the Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from Kentucky State University, and is eligible for examination for certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Employment opportunities exist in hospitals, clinics, physician’s offices, research laboratories, industry, veterinary clinics, education, hospital administration, and sales. |
