Surgical Technologists most often function as members of the surgical team in a sterile environment. During surgery, the anticipate the needs of the surgeon, pass instruments and provide other sterile items, as well as directly assisting by handling tissue, using instruments and providing wound exposure within the operative field.

The program is designed to provide the basic knowledge and skills to function in a modern perioperative suite. The curriculum consists of instruction in specialized courses and concentrated study in theory and lab practice. Clinical experience in area hospitals prepares the student for an integral role on the perioperative staff. The program is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Program Term

Completion of the Surgical Technology course takes approximately 11 months. Students are rotated through each clinical site.

Opportunities for Advancement

Upon completion of the program, the graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination through the Association of Surgical Technologists, and become a Certified Surgical Technologist. Demand is high and you can expect to earn $10.00 - $11.15 at the entry level.
