| The Kentucky
Medication Aide prepares the Medicaid Nurse Aide to administer
specific medications in a long-term care facility such as a nursing
home, as delegated and supervised by a licensed nurse. This course
includes basic principles and procedures of medication administration in
accordance with established guidelines and requirements that direct the
limited functions of the Kentucky Medication Aide.
Program Term Completion of the Kentucky medication Aide course takes approximately seven weeks. Pre-Requisites Before entering the program, students must be 17 years of age, have a high school diploma or have completed their GED. A Compass test must be taken if neither a high school diploma nor GED can be produced. You must work a minimum of six months as a nurse aide in a health care facility within the last two years. Course Requirements Must complete all required tests with at least 70%. Must attend all required hours for clinical and achieve satisfactory rating. Opportunities for Advancement Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take the state certification test to become a Kentucky Medication Aide. Completion of this course also serves as a springboard for greater career opportunities in a variety of settings, such as becoming a Licensed Practice Nurse or Registered Nurse. Salary rates from $8.50 - $10.50 per hour. |
