Health Careers Opportunity
Program The Heath Careers Opportunity Program is a federally funded program designed to assist students from the Appalachian counties of Kentucky who are interested in health science programs which include: Athletic Training, Clinical Laboratory Science, Communication Disorders, Dietetics, Emergency Medical Care, Environmental Health Science, Health Education, Health Information Management, Medical Assisting, Occupational Therapy and Therapeutic Recreation. Students selected for the program participate in a six-week Summer Transition and Enrichment Program on the Eastern Kentucky University campus. HCOP prepares students for college life and learning including the challenges of becoming a health professional. The program is intended to help the student expand academic abilities in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, chemistry, math and reading, writing and study skills. The program also helps students explore health careers through real-life experiences, seminars, and discussions. Students receive a stipend of $40 per day to cover living expenses. The overall goal of the Health Careers Opportunity Program is to graduate health care professionals who will return to Appalachia Kentucky to provide health care. For more information phone (859)
