Medical Laboratory Technician

The Medical Laboratory Technician program is a two-year associate degree program and consists of 69 credit hours (50 hours technical core offered at the Pineville Campus and 19 hours general education offered at Southeast

Community College or other accredited institution). It is designed to prepare individuals for a career in the clinical laboratory.

The graduate will be able to perform routine analytical procedures in the various departments of the laboratory to include hematology, urinalysis, clinical chemistry, serology, microbiology, and immunohematology (blood bank). The MLT draws blood specimens, prepares slides, analyzes blood and body fluids for cellular components and chemical composition. Manual dexterity and normal color vision are strong attributes of persons in this occupation.
