Medical Sonography Program

The mission of the Sonography Program is to develop highly skilled, competent, and professional sonographers. This is accomplished through theory and applied practice. In addition, professional attitudes and appropriate judgements are developed by providing experiences in a diverse and changing work environment. Students are prepared for registry certification of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.

Sectional anatomy, ultrasonic instrumentation and imaging are the major components in this program. Skills are developed through clinical experiences using diagnostic ultrasonic imagery equipment.

The Diagnostic Sonographer utilizes high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical diagnosis. The professional level of this health care service requires highly skilled and competent individuals who function as integral members of the health care team.

The Diagnostic Sonographer must be able to produce and evaluate ultrasound images and related data that are used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis. The Diagnostic sonographer must acquire and maintain specialized technical skills and medical knowledge to render quality patient care.

The Diagnostic Sonography program is an 18 month diploma program and all applicants must meet all requirements for a category I program.

Admission Requirements

Graduation from a JRCERT Program in Radiologic Technology, with proof of registry eligibility with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART)

Admission Procedures

Complete an application form.

Submit ARRT score report (If admitted into the program as a registry-eligible applicant, submission of this score must be reported as soon as it is received).
