Requirements for B.A. degree with an area of concentration in The curriculum in Nutrition and Dietetics seeks to prepare students for entrance into a dietetic internship or approved pre-professional practice (AP4) experience to become a registered dietitian (RD). The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), providing basic and foundation knowledge, is currently granted approval status by the Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Foundation of the American Dietetics Association (ADA). In addition to pursuing professional registration, graduates may seek employment in health care, government and private agencies, hospitality and foodservice management, other related fields and/or pursue graduate studies. The concentration in Nutrition and Dietetics requires the six departmental core courses, five courses in the area of concentration, and collateral courses. The departmental core courses are: CFS 130, 145, 221, 441, 207, and 480. Required courses in the area of concentration are: CFS 115, 334, 344, and 372. The collateral course requirements are: BIO 101, 302, and 322; BUS 460, and CHM 113 or equivalent. Students completing equivalent courses in chemistry (not CHM 113) will need to complete one additional course in Biochemistry, if not previously taken, to satisfy ADA requirements. Students are encouraged to obtain professionally-related work experience to enhance opportunities in post-baccalaureate education and future employment. These experiences, arranged in consultation with the program director, may be obtained in part through field work associated with required courses and through labor assignments, community service, independent studies, or summer/short term internships. |
